The Intra-Company Work Visa, also known as a Secondment Visa, is ideal for foreign employees temporarily transferred to South Africa within the same corporate group.
Who Qualifies?
- The visa is for foreign workers employed by a company outside South Africa who need to take up employment at a South African branch, subsidiary, or affiliated company.
- The employee must have worked for the overseas branch/head office for at least six months before the transfer.
- The South African company must have an official branch or head office.
- The transfer must be supported by a skills transfer plan demonstrating how knowledge or skills will be shared with South African employees.
Spouses and Dependents
- The visa holder’s spouse and biological children can apply to accompany them to South Africa.
- Dependents may also apply to attend school during their stay.
Duration of Stay
- The Intra-Company Work Visa is temporary, valid for up to four years.
- Dependents receive visas valid for three years, which can be extended locally to align with the principal visa holder’s term.
- Extensions beyond four years require applying for a new visa from outside South Africa, with strong motivation explaining the need for continuation.
Permanent Residence
- This visa does not lead to permanent residence.
- The visa is granted on the understanding that the employee will return to their overseas position within the corporate group after the secondment.
